When I was young a man named Bob Fischer went to my church. He was an elderly man, retired, probably widowed. In truth I know very little about him. However Mr. Fischer took it upon himself to be the church encourager. Personal computers and home-publishing software was brand new but Mr. Fischer learned the ropes and started sending homemade cards to members of the church.
He sent them for just about everything. He would send birthday cards, sympathy cards and most of all thank you cards for helping in the church ministries. He made it his mission to make sure that no one felt excluded, unappreciated or forgotten. As he got older his mind started to fail him but he continued in his ministry. At times the cards people received didn’t make sense as his brain refused to support him any longer. Even so, each card was a testimony of his love and people appreciated it all the more.
I was fortunate enough to be a recipient of one or two of Mr. Fischer’s cards and I have never forgotten it. Now I want to give back some of that encouragement to others. I have currently been unemployed for the last 6 months and have spent most of it in self-pity but now I want to show others that they are special. I have decided to send out 5 home-made cards of encouragment a week to random US addresses from whitepages.com
I am hoping that God uses this to touch the lives of people who need to know that they are loved and special. In each note I am going to include the URL to this blog and I hope some people will let me, and whoever else finds this blog, be a part of their story.
If you have someone specfic you think would benefit from a “Hook-A-Smile” (I need some name suggestions here…) then feel free to email me the snail mail address at firstname.lastname@example.org
